Artist Linda Stein is an American feminist icon with Jewish roots who we are now pleased to introduce to our audience through a major exhibition and a donation to the Art Museum. Ever since the 1960s, Linda Stein has been devoted to the LGBTQ and feminist movement through her artistic practice. Working in everything from drawings, paintings, prints and collages to large sculptures, she explores themes of gender, power, persecution, and heroism.
Prior to the big exhibition opening April 22, we offer a sneak preview of art by Linda Stein on the first floor of the permanent collection under the title: Scrambling Expectations: Introducing Linda Stein to the Collection (23 February – 30 April). Here we present a selection of archival prints made from collages that the artist developed over the past decades, in which she challenges prevailing norms around gender, power, and sexuality.
